For the last two years our local businesses have been doing it tough, with cafes, restaurants and supermarkets closing their doors due to limited staffing and uncertainty.

More than ever, these businesses rely on us for support and patience as they work towards reviving the hospo scene into the energetic and buzzing one we all know and love.

Here are some simple ways you can start showing your support.

Be kind

Kindness is the easiest form of support we can give to our local business owners and baristas, and it doesn’t cost a thing. Start up a conversation with the barista making your coffee, ask the waitress how her day has been, or share your positive feedback on the great service with the owner. It might not seem like much but a little bit of kindness can go a long way.

When stopping for your morning coffee make sure to see what else is on offer. Treat yourself to a croissant or pick up a sandwich for lunch.

Switch to coffee beans

If you’re still working from home but don’t want to miss out on your quality morning coffee then it’s time to swap the bitter instant packets for smooth, rich coffee beans from your local café.

Most cafes will grind the beans for you so you don’t need to do the work, and a simple French Press is available at most supermarkets. It’s a great way to get your coffee fix at home and continue supporting local businesses.

Tip, tip, tip

If you have capacity to, now is the time to spend and give more to local businesses. A little tip every now and then goes a long way. And why not give back to those that provide great service each day?
